Soundboard: the trigger travels over the WebSocket and every client in the
call plays the clip locally, instead of mixing it into the presser's
microphone or publishing a LiveKit track. No upstream bandwidth, no media
stack changes, and the clip is not degraded by voice processing.

Fan-out uses a new sendToRoomParticipants rather than sendToRoom: the latter
broadcasts a space room to the whole space, which is right for the presence
the sidebar shows and wrong for anything audible. The cooldown is enforced
server-side — a client-side one only slows down people not trying to abuse it,
and a soundboard is the easiest thing here to turn into a weapon. Playing is
open to anyone in the call; deciding what the buttons are needs MANAGE_SPACE.

Account menu: the name in the user bar had cursor-pointer and no handler, so
the interface was already promising a click that did nothing. Offers profile,
status and copy-id — not the Clips or account switching the reference design
shows, which would be dead UI here.

Call timer: startedAt comes from the server, so a late joiner sees the call's
age rather than their own arrival. Empty space rooms are destroyed already,
which is what makes the next call start from zero — no reset logic needed.

The profile popout already existed and was reachable from eleven places —
messages, mentions, avatars, member list, DMs, activity panel — but no voice
surface opened it, so clicking someone during a call did nothing.

Wire it into the voice user rows (VoiceChannel's sidebar list) and the name
label on grid tiles, whose avatar was already a ProfileAvatar; the name beside
it not reacting read as the click failing.

Left mobile alone deliberately: MobileSpacesScreen already opens the profile
from its row wrapper, and MobileVoiceJoinSheet would layer a history-pushed
full-screen profile inside a bottom sheet, which cannot be verified here.

devsyncwrld c70b0095a9 feat(voice): jump to the call from the voice panel
The channel name under 'Voice Connected' was a plain div. Making it navigate
needed more than an onClick: voiceStore never recorded which space the call
was in, and spaceStore.channels only holds the space currently being viewed —
so after navigating away the call's channel was unresolvable, which is also
why the label degraded to a generic 'Voice Channel'.

Capture space and channel name at join time (the only moment they are
reliable) and use them for both the label and the jump. Covers space calls
and DM calls.

cnrd 8456b8f976 fix(web): stop the profile card re-anchoring to its own avatar (#39)
Avatar opened the profile popout whenever it received a user prop. Since user is how every avatar gets its gradient, colour and status dot, all 22 call sites became profile triggers by accident — including the picture inside the profile card itself, which re-anchored the card to that picture on every click and walked it across the screen (120px right, 36px down, until it pinned at the viewport clamp).

Avatar is now presentational. A new ProfileAvatar carries the open-the-profile behaviour at the five call sites that actually want it. The card's own picture escalates to the full profile modal instead of reopening the card.

The card also places itself off its measured size via the shared computeFloatingPosition engine, replacing six call sites that each hand-computed coordinates against a guessed 460px card height.

Closes #37

Jannis Braun 3c134fe0e8 feat(sounds): self-made Ogg cues + watch/mute/pop fixes
Replace ripped Discord audio with self-authored Ogg Vorbis files (avoids
copyright on open-source launch) and fix three cue bugs:

- Anti-pop envelope: playSound now applies a 10ms fade-in (+ tail fade-out
for one-shots) so buffers no longer start at a non-zero amplitude. Kills
the pop on the looping call cues. Mirrors playTestTone.
- Deafen no longer plays mute+deafen at once: toggleDeafen flips isMuted and
isDeafened atomically, so SoundController saw both transitions. New tested
pure helper selectVoiceStateSound() suppresses the side-effect mute cue.
- Viewer-side watch feedback: stream_user_joined/left now play locally on the
watcher's own machine for explicit Watch/Stop actions, via
handleViewerWatchToggle. Direct local playback (not a watchingStreams diff)
keeps auto-teardown silent and works identically on Safari and Electron.

Docs: docs/systems/sounds.md updated (Ogg, dual-audience cue rows, mute/deafen
selection, viewer feedback, anti-pop envelope).

Jannis Braun 6fb38d391c feat(mobile): chat polish — floating composer + iOS keyboard handling + bottom-sheet drag-close + file-chip overflow
Multi-pass mobile chat polish landed across this session.

- MessageInput is now a floating glass-bubble (`position: absolute`) on both desktop and mobile — last messages scroll *behind* the translucent bubble. MobileChatScreen wraps MessageList + MessageInput in a `relative` parent so absolute positioning resolves. Removed the prior in-flow mobile branch that clipped message-list bottom against an invisible barrier.
- iOS PWA keyboard handling: new `useVisualViewportInset` hook subscribes to `visualViewport.resize/scroll` AND polls `vv.height` for ~600ms after focusin (iOS PWA standalone often fails to dispatch resize for keyboard transitions). MobileShell sizes its container to `vv.height` when keyboard is open — `bottom: 0` on the composer naturally lands flush with the keyboard top, regardless of how reliably resize events fire. Composer uses 6px gap above home indicator (keyboard closed) and 0px gap above keyboard (keyboard open). Added `interactive-widget=resizes-content` viewport meta as the cleaner native equivalent for Chrome/Android.
- MessageList bottom padding is dynamic via `--composer-clearance` CSS variable. MessageInput writes `composerHeight + bottomOffset + 12px` to its parent via ResizeObserver — re-fires on textarea autosize, reply banner, attachment tile growth, parent resize. Last message always has 12px breathing room above the bubble regardless of composer state.
- AttachmentRenderer generic file chip: `max-w-full sm:max-w-[400px]` on outer + `min-w-0` + `flex-shrink-0` on icon + `flex-1` on text + `flex-wrap` on badge row. Long filenames now ellipsize cleanly on narrow viewports instead of pushing the chip off-screen.
- New `useDragToClose` hook: shared bottom-sheet drag-down-to-dismiss gesture. Spread on handle/header only (body scrolling unaffected). 6px deadzone, 100px or 0.5px/ms velocity threshold, 200ms `cubic-bezier(0.22, 1, 0.36, 1)` close-out animation, rAF-staged transform for a stable from-value. `hasInteracted` latch prevents the open keyframe from re-firing mid-close (the bounce-up-then-vanish bug). Wired into InputPopover (emoji/GIF), MobileVoiceJoinSheet, MobileFolderSheet.

Specs: docs/systems/mobile-ui.md (Floating Composer + Drag-to-Close sections), docs/systems/message-list.md (--composer-clearance), docs/systems/design-system.md (glass-bubble row references).

Jannis Braun 74ccf20308 feat(mobile): Wave 5 — voice-join camera preview + Electron settings entries + toast positioning
Closes the mobile parity push.

- MobileVoiceJoinSheet: full pre-join camera preview. Dormant-by-default (never auto-fires getUserMedia), explicit user gesture to arm, hard-bound disarm on sheet close (any path). Camera picker popup portaled to document.body so a long device list stays scrollable above the aspect-video preview tile (max-height min(50vh,320px), iOS scroll momentum). iOS Safari-safe: autoPlay playsInline muted + post-await play().
- MobileSettingsScreen: Keybinds + Desktop sections gated on isElectron(); they reuse the existing KeybindsPanel/DesktopPanel which are already mobile-fit. screenMap entries added in MobileShell. (Verify on Electron desktop build at narrow viewport.)
- ToastContainer: real overlap was hiding the voice-fullscreen control bar. Mobile branch now reads isMobile/mobileStack/currentVoiceChannelId and computes the bottom offset across five mobile states (voice-full / pushed+voice / pushed / root+voice / root), all with safe-area-inset-bottom; left-3 right-3 + items-center keeps toasts in the safe-tap zone. Desktop bottom-6 right-6 unchanged.

Specs: docs/systems/mobile-ui.md (Toast Positioning section, screenMap rows, Electron-entry rationale, z-index row); docs/systems/voice.md (Mobile pre-join preview subsection covering lifecycle + camera picker portal).

Jannis Braun 49e9047005 feat(client-federation): user-view cache for cross-instance DM render
Fixes a render bug where a federated user (e.g. axel@nova) appeared with
the federation globe icon and a broken avatar when viewed on his own home
instance. Root cause: `populateFromReady` is first-wins by federatedId and
discards the entire skipped DM payload — including its `members` array —
so when a sibling instance's ready arrived first, the home instance's view
of every shared user was dropped on the floor.

Adds a render-only `userViews` cache that mirrors the `dmAlternatives`
philosophy: information from skipped ready payloads is preserved for
rendering. Every wire surface that delivers a User upserts into the cache
regardless of dedup outcome; render sites read through a Zustand selector
hook to surface the home view when one is loaded. The DM channel ingestion
race is left untouched — the existing no-flapping invariant on origin
reconnect is intentional and load-bearing for failover.

Layered changes:

- `identity.ts`: `normalizeOriginToHost`, `canonicalUserKey`,
  `isDeliveryFromHome`, `isFederationGlobeApplicable` — single helpers
for origin/host normalization and the home/stub tier decision.
- `spaceStore.ts`: `userViews` Map, `UserViewEntry` type, `upsertUserView`
action with the home-wins preference rule, prune by `deliveredBy` in
  `removeInstanceSpaces` (mirrors `dmAlternatives` cleanup), `reset`
  clears.
- `userViewLookup.ts`: `useCanonicalUserView` (Zustand selector hook for
React) + `getCanonicalUserView` (sync getter for non-React paths).
Render reactivity is structural via the selector, not coincidence on
  legacy update paths.
- `populateFromReady` upsert pass runs BEFORE the federatedId dedup so
members of skipped DMs still reach the cache.
- WS handlers (dm_message_*, message_*, user_updated, member_joined,
  friend_request_*, dm_channel_created, dm_member_added) and REST
hydrators (socialStore, discoverStore, mutuals) feed the cache with
  their delivering origin.
- Render-site routing through `useCanonicalUserView` at every audited
user-rendering site (sidebar, header, search, message bubble, reply
chips, profile popout/modal, group settings, voice tiles, mention
chips, member lists, friends, invites). Self-rendering sites compose
  alongside via existing `isSelf`/`resolveDisplayIdentity`.
- Globe predicate hoisted to `isFederationGlobeApplicable` and applied
at three sites, gating on `domain !== window.location.host` so we
never show the globe for users whose home IS our own.

Tests: 31 new unit tests across `identity`, `userViews` store, and
`userViewLookup`. Full suite 276/276.

Docs: `client-federation.md` §3 gains a "User View Cache" section
parallel to "DM Origin Failover"; `dm-system.md` notes the new store
action and WS handler upserts.

Bug 3 (federation profile-sync gap — orbit's stale profile data on
nova-Axel after a clear/color-change on nova never propagated)
remains open. The user-view cache routes around it for the common case
(home instance is connected), but the underlying S2S relay gap is its
own diagnosis and follows in a separate branch.

Jannis Braun e0861597bc fix(web): portal overlays into fullscreenElement so they render in voice fullscreen
requestFullscreen() on the voice container puts only its descendants in the
browser's top layer; overlays portaled to document.body were rendered outside
that layer and stayed invisible — most visibly the right-click context menu on
stream tiles and voice user panels.

Add usePortalContainer() hook returning document.fullscreenElement ?? document.body
and re-rendering on fullscreenchange. Migrate every overlay reachable during a
call: ContextMenuRenderer (desktop, submenu, mobile sheet), Tooltip,
ConfirmDialog, ConnectionInfoPopover, ScreenShareSettingsPopover, and
ScreenSharePicker (which previously rendered inline at App root).

Jannis Braun 7c0b67bcc9 feat(sounds): broadcast stream_watch from StreamTile click sites
Wire broadcastStreamWatch (LiveKit data-channel ping) to all three
explicit user-action sites in StreamTile: "Stop Watching" context-menu
item, "Watch Stream" context-menu item, and the handleWatch button
callback. Broadcast is intentionally confined to click sites only —
not wired in voiceStore actions — to prevent noisy stream_user_left
sounds on automatic teardown paths in useLiveKit.ts.

Jannis Braun b03df992dc fix: SoundController isSelf must check BOTH local ID and homeUserId
The identity flip during disconnect: updateParticipants resolves
homeUserId → localSnowflake when activeDmCall is set, but reverts
to raw homeUserId when activeDmCall is cleared (before LiveKit
disconnect completes). SoundController sees the snowflake "leave"
and the homeUserId "join" — two phantom events for the same person.

Previous fix only checked homeUserId OR id. Now checks BOTH via
isSelf(id) which matches against a Set of {id, homeUserId}. This
recognizes the user as "self" regardless of which identity format
the participant currently has.
2026-04-08 15:33:51 +02:00
Jannis Braun 5ab1f7b89d fix: SoundController identity mismatch for federated users
Root cause: SoundController compared LiveKit participant p.userId
(which is homeUserId from the home instance) against currentUser.id
(local snowflake on the current instance). For federated users these
are different IDs, so the controller thought the user's own presence
was a stranger — playing user_join/user_leave for self.

Fix: use homeUserId || id for the self-check. This matches the
LiveKit identity format used in federated calls.

Jannis Braun 1468b68199 fix: skip participant leave sounds during self-disconnect
Added justDisconnected guard to the participant sound loop. When
the user hangs up, isLiveKitConnected transitions to false — but
in a separate or same subscription tick, the participants list
also empties. Without the guard, SoundController plays user_leave
for every departed participant AND the disconnect sound simultaneously.

Now: if justDisconnected is true, the entire participant loop is
skipped. Only the disconnect sound plays.

Jannis Braun c037803c5a fix: acceptor sets activeDmCall in click handler, not server response
Bug A: handleAccept relied on dm_call_accepted server response to set
activeDmCall. But connectFn's async AudioContext resume yields to the
event loop, dm_call_accepted arrives during the yield, finds
isLiveKitConnected=false (connectFn just reset it), and skips
setActiveDmCall. The acceptor connects to LiveKit but the UI never
shows the call. Fix: set activeDmCall and clear incomingCall
directly in the click handler.

Bug B: ready handler no longer sets activeDmCall for active calls.
On refresh/restart the client has no LiveKit connection — showing
"Connecting..." with no connection is broken. The call exists on
the server but this client session is disconnected.

Jannis Braun aae0b1a74e fix: comprehensive client-side session management for federated DM calls
Four fixes addressing the full state management problem:

1. Passive ready handler: no longer auto-connects to LiveKit on
page refresh. Prevents identity conflicts when the same user
has multiple sessions fighting for one LiveKit identity slot.
The user must re-accept to join; state is shown but not acted on.

2. SoundController sync guard: incomingCallLoading/outgoingCallLoading
refs prevent multiple playSound calls during async audio load.
If call is cancelled while sound loads, stops it immediately on
completion. Eliminates the "5 ringtones at once" bug.

3. Host dm_call_accepted broadcasts now include federatedCallId so
all clients (including remote instances) can match the event.

4. Removed all diagnostic console.log statements.

VP9 empirically outperforms H.264 in gaming (Chrome may not use

Jannis Braun 161e876df8 fix: IncomingCallModal calls connectFn directly for iOS gesture context 2026-03-23 21:09:37 +01:00
Jannis Braun 241451ca18 feat: gesture-aware voice connection, remove AppLayout auto-connect
Replace the useEffect-based auto-connect pattern in AppLayout with
direct connect/disconnect calls from user gesture contexts. This is
required for iOS (AudioContext.resume + getUserMedia must happen in
a gesture handler) and aligns with tightening autoplay policies on
desktop browsers.

Architecture:
- voiceStore gains connectFn/disconnectFn refs, registered by AppLayout
  from the single useLiveKit() instance.
- All voice join paths (ChannelSidebar, MobileSpacesScreen, MainContent,
voice_moved WS handler) pass connectFn to joinVoiceChannel().
- All disconnect paths (VoiceControls, voiceActions, MobileVoiceFullScreen,
MobileVoiceMiniBar, dm_call_ended/rejected WS handlers, ready handler)
  call disconnectFn() directly.
- dm_call_accepted WS handler calls connectFn() to initiate the DM call
  LiveKit connection.
- The 55-line auto-connect useEffect and lastAttemptedRef are removed.

Jannis Braun 1c806be94f fix: clear message cache on reconnect to prevent stale scroll position
After a server restart, navigating to a previously-visited channel showed
messages at a stale middle position instead of scrolling to the bottom.
The in-memory message cache survived the reconnect, so loadMessages()
bailed (cache hit) and the scroll-to-bottom logic never fired.

Now the ready handler clears the messages and hasMore maps for all
channels belonging to the reconnecting origin (including DMs for home).
The currently open channel is force-reloaded immediately; other channels
get fresh-fetched on next visit, triggering proper scroll-to-bottom.

Also fixes voice channel settings gear icon placement to match text
channels (flex-1 pushes icon to right edge).

Jannis Braun bfecb41c66 fix: derive voice sidebar from LiveKit participants to eliminate desync
The channel sidebar voice user list was maintained by a separate
voiceUsers Map (fed by WS events + fragile hydration code) that diverged
from reality after server restarts — users shown in wrong channels,
duplicated across channels. The VoiceGrid was always correct because it
reads LiveKit participants directly.

Now VoiceChannel.tsx derives its user list from LiveKit participants for
the connected channel (single source of truth) and only falls back to
server-provided voiceUsers for channels the user is not connected to.

Removed all hydration band-aids that tried to sync the two systems:
- useLiveKit ParticipantDisconnected → removeVoiceUser
- useLiveKit ConnectionStateChanged → addVoiceUser hydration loop
- useWebSocket ready handler → dynamic import LiveKit hydration

Jannis Braun bda7930e61 fix: restore setDisplayMediaRequestHandler with useSystemPicker
Electron requires setDisplayMediaRequestHandler for getDisplayMedia() to
work — removing it broke screen sharing entirely. Restored the handler
with useSystemPicker: true, which on macOS 15+ uses the native system
picker (honoring restrictOwnAudio), while Windows/Linux fall back to
the custom picker with the shareAudio toggle for echo control.

Jannis Braun 9ff3761640 fix: remove setDisplayMediaRequestHandler to let restrictOwnAudio work natively
The custom screen share picker intercepted getDisplayMedia() and created
a raw loopback stream, bypassing Chromium's constraint pipeline entirely.
restrictOwnAudio was silently discarded. Removing the handler lets
Chromium 144's native getDisplayMedia run end-to-end with restrictOwnAudio
applied, eliminating the audio feedback loop in the desktop app.

Jannis Braun 46f55643ae fix: eliminate screen share audio feedback loop + upgrade Electron 33→40
Screen sharing with audio captured the app's own voice playback, causing
users to hear themselves echoed back. Fixed via two layers:

- Add restrictOwnAudio constraint (Chrome 141+/Chromium 144) to exclude
the app's own audio from system audio capture
- Add shareAudio toggle so users can disable system audio entirely
- Remove outdated macOS audio block (now supported via ScreenCaptureKit)
- Upgrade Electron 33→40 (Chromium 130→144) so restrictOwnAudio works
  natively in the desktop app
- Add NSAudioCaptureUsageDescription for macOS 14.2+ audio capture
- Add GTK 3 fallback for Linux GNOME compatibility (Electron 36+)
